1. There are different number of websites hosted per server thus there is a difference in the rates of various packages offered by many service providers.

a) The procurement price of the server is proportionally divided by assumed number of websites which are planned to be added to the server thus giving the cost price per website.

b) After dividing the server cost price by planned number of sites to be hosted per server one calculates partially as to what will be his cost price but this cost price does not consider overheads and few relative points discussed further in this point only.

c) The number of websites which will be hosted on a particular server thus depends upon what is the cost and what is the minimum amount of margin one has to keep to offer service for a complete one year. Here please do not forget that while calculating the breakeven cost one has to take into account that it takes many months to fill the server and to breakeven the cost of the server maybe first few websites which are sold for few hundreds per year has a cost of many many thousands per month.

d) The market price of a particular web hosting package is decided only after taking into account many factors but a expensive package is normally due to the fact that less sites are hosted per server and thus to breakeven one has to get more money because here the product price deciding factor is not quantity but quality. 

e) Prices of various packages can be seriously affected if one does not take into account that if at the time of renewal the customers are leaving him than he can face a real bad music because by that time he may have bought new servers whereas his old server starts getting vacant. So do not jump to sudden conclusions as to why some packages are expensive and some are cheap try to analyze taking into account the following points too.

2. Difference in rates as per package can also be there because of difference in hardware Configuration of the servers as the cost of procuring a DUAL Xeon with SCSI Drive is approx 3 times the cost of a normal PIV or an AMD with IDE drive.

3. We get so many calls everyday from prospective customers having lot of confusion in their mind as to who should they choose to be there service provider. The major cause of this confusion is due to difference in rates and they are over suspicious of whatever is told to them even if one wishes to guide them honestly. Many customers do not wish to understand that no one pays from his pocket for others success. They are always skeptical that people who charge more wish to earn more or charge less maybe giving inferior products but it is not true always. These days new companies are mushrooming into web hosting from all around the country run by those who are neither financially stable nor are competent but they feign as if they run their own servers. One should make a thorough check and find, does the person running the show has the ability, finance and acumen to run such a demanding business. a). Is there a separate mail server.

b). Is there a dedicated IP for the website.

c). Is there a separate database server etc.

d). Does the server has SCSI Drive or an IDE Drive.

e). Is the service provider using a DUAL Xeon or a PIV or a AMD as the cost of procuring a DUAL Xeon with SCSI Drive is approx 3 times the cost of a normal PIV or an AMD with IDE drive.

f). How many servers are used to host a single website, or in simple words a website hosted on a standalone PIV server with IDE drive maybe 1/5 the cost of a website hosted on cluster of Dual Xeon Server with SCSI Drives.

g). Is there a Backup facility or RAID.

Lastly please bear in mind that on all our Linux Servers and on Servers where we offer Packages captioned 'Windows 2003 1-Direct' and 'Windows 2003- Host 3 Websites' we do not host more than 300 websites per server whereas the industry standard is approx 600 - 1000 websites. We even have packages where we use 4 DUAL XEON SERVERS WITH SCSI DRIVE AND RAID 1 ON A CLUSTER TO HOST 1 WEBSITE.
